Hazard is the potential to cause harm. The risk is that associated with an unchecked hazard. In the case of RA = 3 then this is low risk. A hazard is in the workplace but it is controlled. In the case of RA= 9 this is high risk and work should not continue until the hazard as been made safe. In this case any hazard within the work space area should be cleared in order to reduce the risk.
1 x 1 =1 very low risk; 1 x 2 = 2 low risk; 1 x 3 = 3 low risk
2 x 2 = 4 low to medium risk; 2 x 3= 6 medium risk,
3 x 3 = 9 high risk.
When high risk is found a full risk assessment should take place of the activity in accordance with law. Record and keep any substantial findings.
