Lesson 10

Core learning objectives

Individually pupils will be evaluating their product against the original specification. They will review each other's work against the criteria outlined in the portfolio. From this evaluation they will suggest possible further development of the product. Through their evaluation diary they will clearly state what they know, understand and can do in relation to the skills, processes and knowledge acquired during the project.

Extended learning objectives

Through an evaluation report the pupil will identify those areas in which they have become increasingly skilful. They will describe in some detail these areas of skills, processes and knowledge and clearly identify those areas in which they would seek to gain further understanding as well as identifying how they would change aspects of the design and manufacture if the project was repeated. Extended writing should be expected within their evaluation diary. By this stage gifted pupils should be demonstrating their ability to provide an exceptional performance.

SEN learning objectives

Through discussion with the teacher or SSA the pupil/s will talk about the project, identifying what went well and what they might improve. They will describe which skills they have acquired and how they might improve their future work.

Lesson context

Teacher lead lesson facilitating the evaluation of the product, group evaluation and whole group discussion. Set the groups by achievement

Lesson structure

(Pre-lesson planning) Arrange the room for whole class and group discussion.

  1. Outline the aims and purpose of the lesson which is to ensure that they celebrate their final product through group discussion and evaluation and through whole group discussion.
  2. Individual written evaluation from group discussions, noting group comments in individual diaries. Ensure that the group understands the value and importance of constructive comments which are important in providing positive and further development of designing and making. SSA support of SEN pupils for verbal evaluation and literacy and hand writing skills. (If no SSA available plan for extended teacher support for SEN pupils. Ensure that the core group are receiving support at some time during the lesson should this be the case, with any extension pupils receiving individual evaluation during arranged tutorials.)
  3. Whole group evaluation of the project. Ensure that as many as possible have the opportunity to celebrate their project and share their evaluation of their product. (Support SEN and allow extended pupils the opportunity to inspire other pupils).
  4. Prepare pupils for the next stage of learning

Are discussion areas clear of any unnecessary hazards?

Are pupils made aware of safety requirements and behaviour during the lesson?

Lesson evaluation

To be completed at the end of each lesson by the teacher. Assessment to inform future planning. How well did the group learn? Were targets met? Do any aspects of the lesson require improvement? Did any particular pupils perform well or otherwise? End of project evaluation - Has the project been successful in meeting the aims and purpose for which it was chosen.
