Designing & Making Enamelled Jewellery

Making

  • Working individually, each pupil will follow their prepared working schedule and time plan during manufacture. A number of processes will be involved.
  • The cutting , shaping and finishing of the copper blank. The drawing of the edges and the slight doming of the formed blank.
  • The supervised initial  kiln work.
  • The introduction of enamel powders and supervised scrolling of colours within the kiln.
  • Cleaning and finishing. Supervised use of diluted sulphuric acid.
  • Risk assessment for all processes.

Designing

The development of a template drawing for attachment to the copper blank. This can be done in Art or within the design technology lesson. If in design technology then the teacher may wish to allow the pupil to copy using the grid method (if enlarging or reducing the picture) or by a direct trace.
