Designing and Making, Project Management, Work Schedule, Time Plan
Designing
During the designing process pupils will be encouraged to develop their three-dimensional skills. They will be shown how to construct the shape freehand using the box method. More able students will be expected to produce an exploded view and less able will be provided with construction boxes and a light box to aid their drawings as well as the opportunity for verbal descriptions. Processes of research and investigation will build upon the work carried out in previous lessons. References to be made to heat treatment processes in a previous project involving for example gas and electric ovens in cooking. On-going time management sheets to be completed as the project proceeds. These sheets will also contain notes on any changes to design or construction ideas as the project develops. Final time plans can be transferred to spreadsheet and/or graphs in order that pupils can use ICT to readily update their project management . This will show individual time spent on tasks highlighting possible areas of weakness.
Making
Working individually each pupil will follow their prepared during manufacture. A number of processes will be involved. Heat Treatment: Drawing to a blade Point Hardening and Tempering Lathe turning - CNC and/or manual turning - whole class demonstration. Brazing - whole class demonstration.
