Screwdriving

Information sources

Because of the dangers of pupils carrying what could be construed as a dangerous weapon it would be inadvisable to ask students to bring in a selection of screwdrivers from home. Therefore the investigation must be restricted to talking to parents and relatives and asking parents to take them to a tool section in a shop so that they are able to see the very wide range of screwdrivers available.

Within the lesson as full a range of screwdrivers as possible is made available for discussion including a variations, for example a double - acting screwdriver with its extension mechanism and ratchet control. Screwdrivers with wooden handles and screwdrivers with plastic handles. How these materials are joined to their respective blades. Phillips screwdrivers, pozidrive, standard cut screws, small screw drivers and large screwdrivers.

Provide raw materials and refer to previous FPT's where manufacturing processes might have been used, using these materials.
